In defense of student rep, all lives matter | Letter to the editor

I am appalled at your criticism of Zach Bauder.

Zach certainly has the right to his opinion, and an awful lot of people agree with a lot of what he was saying, including myself.

That does not make Zach or us racist. Attorney General William Barr and other officials have said that there is not systemic racism in the police. I do not believe that there is systemic racism any more in the U.S.

There are pockets and individuals, sure. But the statistics do not bear out systemic racism. All lives matter. But if you say that to some of the protesters, apparently you are slammed as being racist, and may be putting yourself at risk.

I see that as being reverse racism, and greatly resent that. In my personal experience in working for the federal government from 1961 to 1992, with affirmative action, etc., if a person worked hard they could get ahead regardless of race or sex.

The big problem is that a lot of the protests are turning violent, and a lot of rioting and damages to both small and larger businesses. Many businesspeople have seen their life's work ruined. And that is not being properly controlled by a number of the cities, including Seattle.

Anyway, your strong criticism of the young man seems completely out of line, although that is the mob's theme right now, and too many people are being swayed by the mob, because of the mistakes of a few cases of misjudgment by some policeman.

If the individuals had been white, there would have been an investigation, and a determination made on the case, but in general we would have heard nothing about it, and you know that.
