E-W senior overcomes surgeries on her way to the UW

Numerous ear surgeries to accomplish 15-year ballet career, UW engineering admission

Mia Oscarsson, a member of the Edmonds-Woodway High School Class of 2020, will attend the University of Washington this fall.

Mia Oscarsson was 7 when she had her first ear surgery. Four surgeries were planned in total, where surgeons took cartilage from her rib cage and used it to create the outer portion of her ear.

But these surgeries to reconstruct a birth defect didn't stop the Edmonds resident from finding and exploring lifelong goals and passions.

Oscarsson, 18, has overcome multiple ear surgeries to shine in a 15-year ballet career, incuding with Olympic Ballet School in Edmonds since fourth grade.

She will be attending the University of Washington's College of Engineering.
