Matthew Lacambra finishes his marathon, with teammate Nathan Smith pacing him for the last six miles.
Matthew Lacambra, a dedicated cross-country and track-and-field runner at Edmonds-Woodway High School, along with his teammates, were disappointed about the cancellation of their track-and-field seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
So what did Lacambra do?
The junior decided to run 26.2 miles, his first marathon, on the Burke-Gilman trail March 23, finishing in three hours and five minutes.
He had an incredible outpouring of support from his Edmonds-Woodway cross-country teammates and close friends – Logan Bury, Nathan Smith and Alphonse Menano – along with a several members of the girls team, including Sophie and Ellie Gard.
These students, who say they are like family, been through a lot together, good times and tough.
We salute them.
