Why no face masks at the farmers market? | Letter to the Editor

We walked to the Edmonds Farmers Market today, hoping to support our small-business owners.
We saw folks waiting in line to enter, and we saw volunteers offering hand wipes. But we also saw many citizens being allowed to enter without wearing a mask.
We saw at least three vendors waiting on customers with their (the vendors) masks dropped down to their necks – with no 6-foot distancing concern! Do people not realize that we wear our masks to protect others?
That this is not only about us, but for the safety of our family, neighbors, and friends. Especially our elderly. Most of the volunteers I saw today were from our elderly population. These people are putting their lives on the lines so that we can enjoy a farmers market and get out again.
The least we can do for them is to wear a mask and keep our 6-foot distance. It's time for us to wake up about this crisis and do the right thing.
We turned and headed home, deciding that the risk was not worth it today.
