New Parks and Rec director approved

Edmonds City Council members have voted to approve Mayor Mike Nelson recommendation of Angela Feser as the City's new Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services director. Her first day is April 1.

Feser has held the same position for the City of Sammamish since August 2016.

The vote was 6-1, with Councilmember Kristiana Johnson voting against due, in part, due to Feser coming in at the top salary above, above current directors.

Feser's salary will be $169,166 a year. It's higher than the top rate for her position, as a 3% cost of living increase for 2021 is being rolled into her salary. The City's job application for the position advertised a salary range of $122,556 to $164,238.

She also gets $8,000 in moving expenses, included in her first paycheck. Directors do not have to live in Edmonds.

The position had been vacant since July 2019 after the resignation of Carrie Hite, now the Parks and Recreation director in Redmond.

The current Parks and Rec Deputy Director is Shannon Burley.

City seeks new Economic Development Commission member

As of April 1, there will be one open position on the Citizens Economic Development Commission (CEDC) for which the City seeks interested applicants.

"Promoting economic activity in Edmonds enhances our quality of life and creates jobs," said Mayor Mike Nelson. "Our Economic Development commissioners provide valuable advice on many issues before the City Council, staff, and mayor."

The appointed commissioner will serve in a volunteer capacity for an initial two-year term that runs until March 31, 2022, at which time the appointed commissioner may request reappointment to another two-year term.

Both the mayor and council appoint CEDC members, with subsequent confirmation by the full City Council. Commissioners must be residents of Edmonds. Those interested in serving can fill out and submit the official city application form at

Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. March 11. For more information, contact Economic Development and Community Services Director Patrick Doherty at [email protected] or 425-771-0251.
