In studying history, like art and architecture, perspective is paramount. An acquaintance sent me a note, probably paraphrased of what he had read in an old journal from an early resident of Bainbridge Island.
The note said that the resident of the TOWN of Port Blakely mentioned looking across Puget Sound to the VILLAGE of Seattle. It is understandable why a person at that time would compare the two places in that way. In the 19th century, Port Blakely claimed to be the second busiest port on the Pacific coast, after only San Francisco.
