Author will speak about 'Bloomland' at Edmonds Bookshop

When John Englehardt started his "Bloomland" six years ago, he didn't intend it to be a look into mass shootings.

Back then, the novel centered on Arkansas (where the author earned his master's in fine arts), young adults constructing their identities, and the promises of higher education.

But when he returned to Seattle, a number of school shootings in the Pacific Northwest – in Umpqua, Oregon; at Marysville-Pilchuck High School; and at Seattle Pacific University – changed the writer's focus.
