The South County Fire Board of Commissioners swore in five members and unanimously re-elected Jim Kenny as chair and elected Bob Meador as vice chair for 2020 at a meeting Jan. 7.

Five commissioners elected in November took the oath of office at the start of the meeting: David Chan, Jim Kenny, Mark Laurence, Chris Teofilak, and Greg Urban.

Urban is also president and CEO of the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce.

This marks the beginning of a transition to a directly elected board to govern the regional fire authority (RFA) established in 2017 by voters in Snohomish County Fire District 1 and the City of Lynnwood.

Initially, the seven-member board included five elected Snohomish County Fire District 1 Commissioners, including Chan and Kenny, and two appointed members from the Lynnwood City Council.

South County Fire serves Edmonds through a contract, and has two fire stations in city limits.
