Royce Napolitino leads kids in song at the annual "Jingle Those Bells" caroling event on the patio of Red Twig on Fifth Avenue South in Edmonds.

The initial idea, as it had played out the past two years, was for a caroling competition, with various groups signing up to compete, said Economic Development Director Patrick Doherty.

"This year we only got one group to sign up. Odd. So we changed the format on the fly, printed up sing-along sheets, had the one group just 'perform' without actually competing, and then it all turned into a carols sing-along. It was actually really nice. Maybe our new format."
