Yes to EMS increase; no to property tax increase

The Edmonds City Council on Nov. 19 voted to increase the emergency medical services (EMS) property tax levy by 1%. The average cost per residence is estimated at $2.23 a year.

At the same time, councilmembers followed Mayor-elect Mike Nelson’s lead in deferring a regular 1% increase in the City’s property tax to instead “bank” for possible use in the future. (Councilmembers Tom Mesaros and Dave Teitzel voted against Nelson’s motion.) If approved, it would have cost an additional $5.73 a year for the owner of home worth $594,300.
