Defending 1A state champion Naomi Smith of King’s took her first step toward another title with a first-place finish at the North Sound girls cross country championships Saturday, Oct. 26, at Lakewood High School.
The Knights senior finished the 5k race in 17 minutes, 29.7 seconds, almost two minutes ahead of South Whidbey’s Kaia Swegler Richmond, who took second in 19:23.0.
