Native purification ceremony at Waterfront Center

More than 30 board members, friends and supporters gathered recently at the future site of the Edmonds Waterfront Center for a Native American purification and blessing ceremony. Chief William Depoe of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians conducted the ceremony.

"We wanted to pay tribute to the Coast Salish people who have been stewards of the region's land and Salish Sea for thousands of years," said Senior Center Executive Director Farrell Fleming. "Sometimes we forget that Edmonds' history did not start with George Brackett."
