The Rev. Greg Peters and parishioner Maryellen Young from St. Alban’s Episcopal Church recently presented Chase Lake Elementary Community School Principal Sean Silver and Vonya King-Norton, family support coordinator, with a check for $2,400 from donations received from the church’s Celtic Christmas concert held in December.

In addition, the Edmonds school received 248 food items for the backpack program from the church. The members of St. Alban’s also donated $1,175 of $25 gift cards to Fred Meyer and WinCo Foods grocery stores to help families in need.

St. Alban’s joins other area churches in supporting the Chase Lake Safety Net, which works to reduce hurdles to success caused by poverty, homelessness, and family disruption by providing immediate emergency help with basic needs (food, clothing, transportation) as well as family advocacy and helping connecting with community providers.

The program also provides a safe and stable environment to students so they can focus on their education.

To support the Safety Net Program contact Vonya King-Norton, Family Support Coordinator, Chase Lake Community School, 425-431-2330, king-nortonv@edmonds.wednet.edu.
