The Edmonds Senior Center temporary thrift store opened this week in Edmonds in the QFC Shopping Center at Edmonds Way and 100th Avenue South.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily except Sunday, when it is closed. The store, whose hours will be expanded over time, also will be closed this Monday, Jan. 21, for Martin Luther Jr. Day.

"We think this location will be very successful," Senior Center Executive Director Farrell Fleming said Saturday, Jan. 19, during the store's grand opening.

The store has 3,200 square feet, about 1,000 more than the store at the senior center on Railroad Avenue.

"Not only the proximity to Goodwill, but just being in this area, a lot more people will discover this store," Fleming said.

Those who want to donate goods can drop off items through the front door or through the back alley.

The longtime thrift store south of the ferry is scheduled to be demolished, along with the rest of the senior center, to make way for the Edmonds Waterfront Center.

The new building is being designed for both seniors and those of all ages.
