Lorraine Edith Barbano: 1936-2018

Lorraine Edith Barbano passed away peacefully at her home in Edmonds, Washington, on August 9, 2018.

She was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. She married Tom Barbano in 1960 and moved west, first to California and then to Edmonds, where she lived for the past 51 years.

She never lost her New York accent or New York style, and while a New Yorker at heart, she grew to love the area and all her Northwest friends.

Her life was guided by faith, family, food and friends. She loved her faith and was a devout Catholic, attending daily mass for many years. She volunteered at church functions and was always available to help when needed.

She created and managed her own style of hustle and bustle by raising four boys while cooking, baking and entertaining family and friends. Her Italian cooking was second to none, and her home was always the center of activities for the neighborhood. Even with all the constant activity, she made it all seem effortless and easy.

She loved her family and, as the matriarch, her word was the rule. She took great pride in her roles as mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her sister and best friend, Emilie, and her brother, Joe.

She is survived by her sons Thomas, Jr. (Terrie); Andrew (Claudia); Paul (Colleen); and Michael; and her six grandchildren – Caroline, Thomas, Francesca, Greyson, Vincent and Nicholas.

A funeral mass will be 11 a.m. August 24 at Holy Rosary Parish, 630 Seventh Ave. N, Edmonds, with graveside following at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline. Any donations should be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
