No surprises in primary election

Democratic state Senate incumbent Maralyn Chase of Edmonds is fending off two challengers in her bid to retain her seat in the 32nd Legislative District, which includes Shoreline, Lynnwood and portions of Edmonds. Chase has held the position since 2011.

After the first count in Tuesday’s primary, Chase had 39 percent of the vote, with Democrat Jesse Salomon second with 36 percent. James Wood, an Edmonds resident and a Republican, trails with 25 percent.

The top two candidates in the primary – results are certified Aug. 21 – advance to the general election Nov. 6.
