Edmonds councilmember calls for safe storage of guns law

Edmonds City Councilember Mike Nelson on Tuesday, July 3, held a news conference at the Frances Anderson Center playfield to announce that he will submit legislation requiring the safe storage of firearms in the city of Edmonds.

It will require gun owners to lock up their guns when they are not in use.

Violation of the law could result in a fine between $500 and $1,000.

If a prohibited or at-risk person, or a minor, obtains a firearm and uses it to commit a crime, injure or kill someone (including themselves), the gun owner could be fined up to $10,000.
