Sponsored: June is cataract awareness month!
Last updated 6/21/2018 at Noon
June brings us longer days full of sunshine. While beautiful, it also brings unseen damage to the eyes from UV rays. These rays will cause the lens in your eye to cloud and decrease vision. Better known as “cataracts.”
Many relate cataracts to something that happens later in life, and this is mostly true. In most cases it is definitely treated at that time, although, what most people don't realize is that kids are up to 70 percent more susceptible to UV rays than adults. This is due to lack of collagen in the eyes that build up as we age.
Whether you’re an adult or a child, it's very important to protect your eyes, and the main way of protecting them is by wearing eyewear. The eyewear must have UV protection in them.
When the sun is out, we protect our skin from the UV rays; it is just as important to protect your eyes in the same manner.
If you are unsure whether your eyewear has what it needs to protect your eyes, feel free to come in to use our specialized UV meter to test yours! We also will be handing out free, fully protective youth sunglasses to children in the month of June, while supplies last. Any further questions, please give us a call.
