Coach: Rod Wilcox, first year (assistant coach since 1992)

Top athletes: Boys – Silas Newby (jumps), Pierce Papke (hurdles), Cameron Chew (pole vault, 800), Kobby Solomon (throws), Michael Gabelein (sprints); Gabe Grimm (pole vault); girls – Emma Culberson (hurdles), Noami Smith (distance)

Outlook: The boys team is the defending 1A state champions, while the girls finished fourth at state. Newby already has set a school record in the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 1.5 inches, breaking the old mark by two inches. “Starting the year off with this big mark is a huge surprise, especially due to our cold weather,” Wilcox said. Newby’s mark ranks him third overall in the state.

“My goal is always to get everyone to improve then improve some more,” Wilcox said. “If we do that then we should qualify a ton of kids to Bi-Districts and state. If we do that then we can climb the podium at state and make some great memories.”
