Letter | Edmonds sends a message with train resolutions

Mayor Earling and City Council members unanimously passed two significant resolutions at their meeting on June 28. One bans trains carrying Bakken crude oil through Edmonds.

The other bans trains that carry coal from the Power River Basin to an export terminal in British Columbia.

The signed resolutions are being sent to our state legislators in Olympia, those in Washington, D.C., the secretary of transportation, secretary of energy, and President Obama.

While largely symbolic, these resolutions let it be known that Edmonds is against rail cars carrying coal and oil through our town.
