Letter | Edmonds is unfriendly toward dogs and owners

What a horrible headline! (“Doggies continue to plague the market,” July 7.)

Plague the market, eh? I'm glad to see dogs at the market. They are part of the community, too. I've been attending the market since 2012, and every dog and dog owner I've seen at the market has been responsible and respectful to others.

We can’t ruin it for everyone because of a few complaints in the past. There are dog-friendly events all over large cities like Los Angeles and Seattle. Why can it work there and not in a tiny community like Edmonds?

Edmonds is the most unfriendly dog city I've ever experienced, and it's just not necessary. Where else is there a city that doesn't even allow dogs in their own city parks? What's next? No dogs on sidewalks?

The farmers market is something everyone should be able to enjoy with their children whether they be human or dog. We're so quick to shut our furry friends out without considering that it's likely the human owner to blame.

My dog is smaller than a cat, and if I do choose to bring him I have him off the ground in a carrier where he won't get stepped on. He's not bothering anyone else, so I don't see the problem.

In fact it's been a very positive experience and great way to meet others in my community.

Let's stop with the rules, Edmonds!
