Composer, banker by day in Edmonds July 23

 


Richard Vitzhum never trained as a composer, but that’s what he’s known for.

The 65-year-old Mukilteo resident is a classically trained conductor and violinist who has composed and arranged works for the Mukilteo Community Orchestra and the Mukilteo Presbyterian Church musician groups.

His latest composition, “Time and Tide,” will be featured in an Octava Chamber Orchestra concert July 23 at Edmonds United Methodist Church. It’s a tribute to the works of Steve Reich, from whom he borrows the style of slow harmonic rhythm energized by dynamic pulse.
