Chase Lake community gathers to build school garden

Chase Lake Community School second-grader Josslin Martin works with Jennifer Widrig-Hodges on Saturday, March 12, to pour dirt into a newly-built raised bed at the school’s new community garden.

They’re growing more than minds at Chase Lake Elementary. Members of the community from students, parents and teachers to neighbors gathered on Saturday, March 12, to build a school garden at the Edmonds school.

“Our garden is an opportunity for us to come together as a community, to build engagement, relationships and connections, which is at the heart of the work,” Principal Sean Silver said. “The community garden will give our students an opportunity for project-based learning in math, science and literacy.
