Public records requests can tie up city clerk’s office for years

The public has the right to request public records, but at times, citizens request substantial amounts of information and tie up local government entities for months or even years.
In the City of Edmonds, a citizen recently filed a public records request for the Sunset Avenue Walkway online survey results from Oct. 19 to Dec. 31 and all metadata.
While that type of request is not typical, City Clerk Scott Passey said, it was easy to fill.
