Helen Lenor Lee

Helen Lenor Lee (Walstrand), age 96, passed away in Shoreline, WA on April 27, 2013. She was born on June 17, 1916 in Seattle, WA to Martin and Mary (Johnson) Walstrand.

After being raised in Seattle most of her young life, Helen moved to Swea City, IA to live with relatives after her mother died, where she graduated from high school.

She returned to Seattle after graduation and later joined the Navy WAVES, serving her country proudly during WWII on the air station control tower crew at NAS Pensacola.

After the war, she worked as a secretary for many years where she met and eventually married her boss, Alfred E. Lee, the vice president of States Line Steamship Co. in 1957.

Helen promptly retired and she and Alf enjoyed many wonderful years together, building a home in Edmonds, WA, traveling and spending time with friends and family, until his death in 1991. She was always and forever “Miss Blue” to Alf.

Helen lived in Edmonds for 50 years but for the past few years she resided at Cristwood in Shoreline, WA.

Helen had a passion for gardening and was active in the Edmonds Garden Club.

She was a member of the Sons of Norway and she also enjoyed meeting her coffee club friends for breakfast, sewing, cooking, playing the piano, taking Norwegian lessons, and supporting the Children’s Hospital, Nordic Heritage Museum and Edmonds Historical Museum as a volunteer.


In her younger years she was an avid swimmer and skier as well.

She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren and great-granddaughters for being a loving grandmother and welcoming hostess for holiday gatherings, Swedish pancake breakfasts, and tea parties.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mary Walstrand, her brothers Cliff and Rollo Walstrand, and her husband Alf Lee.

She is survived by her stepson Raymond (Joanne) Lee, grandsons Kirk and Peter (Christi) Lee, granddaughter Joni (Paul) Kaiser, nieces Linda Walstrand and Loree (John) Pardi, six great-granddaughters, and one great-great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. May 28, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood, WA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Seattle Childrens Hospital
