At long last: cleaning up Japanese Gulch

Last updated 8/12/2009 at Noon

What went through peoples minds back then? Who walked the formerly pristine Japanese Gulch and thought, Wow, what a great place to dump 2,700 tires, a sink, a toilet, several hot water heaters and hundreds of pounds of garbage! ?

Fortunately our awareness of the environment and our impact on it has grown over the years along with our appreciation for one of the few remaining greenbelts of significant size in Snohomish County.

Thanks to $30,000 in funding from the Department of Ecology, a dozen workers spent four days last week hauling all of that environmentally hazardous waste out of Japanese Gulch.
