Plastic Bags Forever

Last updated 5/14/2009 at Noon

Do people toting their groceries home from the supermarket in plastic bags realize that discarded plastic bags will continue to degrade the environment for 1,000 years? Thats right folks, those bags arent biodegradable and will be part of the legacy that we leave to future generations.

They break down into small bits of plastic that enter our soil and water, sometimes finding their way into Puget Sound where they are eaten by seabirds, fish, and marine mammals.

If suggestions to carry reusable bags arent enough, then a law is in order. I hope the City Council has the backbone to ban plastic bags very soon.
