June Barbara (Meyn) Hooper, 76, of Edmonds passed away December 1, 2023. Firstborn to Henry and Barbara (Ippolito) Meyn on September 3, 1947, June grew up in Frankfurt, Kansas, moving to Yakima when she was 15.
After completing a journalism degree from UW and Peace Corps training in Sierra Leone, she landed a job with the Yakima Herald Republic. There she met and married the love of her life, Al Hooper (preceding her in death in 2018).
Before long, June's kindhearted spirit led to a master’s in nursing with a cross-cultural focus. Her storied career included work with underserved First Nation communities in B.C,, Seattle Indian Health Board nursing supervisor, and King County Public Health nurse (from 1990 until 2016 retirement).
Cherished by friends and family, June was at the heart of organizing rendezvous, travel adventures, and dining meet-ups. Her book and movie recommendations were unparalleled and her love of everything Apple contagious.
Survived by siblings Danae, Larry (Vera) and Leslie; stepchildren Patty (Robin), Lee (Ron) and John (Lynn); grandchildren Nathan, Graham, Julian; and niece Kami.
A Celebration of Life gathering for June Hooper will be held at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, on Saturday, June 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.. Please RSVP to ldimos60@gmail.com, no later than June 1, 2024.
