John Joshua Winters Jr. was the son of Myrtle and John Joshua Winters Sr. He was born in Issaquah, Washington on January 25, 1930. He was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Edmonds High School in 1950, where he was a member of the 1949 undefeated football team.
After high school, he attended Everett Community College and the University of Washington before enlisting in the Air Force, where he would become a weatherman. Stationed in Big Spring Air Force base in Texas, he met and married Sara Norton in 1952 and relocated back to his native Edmonds shortly before starting their family.
"Jack" as he was well known, opened his own business, Winters Glass, in the late '50s, located in downtown Edmonds on Main Street and later on 5th Avenue. He was active in the Lynnwood Rotary and enjoyed being a member of the Paine Field Air Show crew.
Jack was elected to the Edmonds City Council and served his beloved city from 1971 to 1974. After selling the glass business in 1975, he focused on his property management businesses in Edmonds and Bothell and continued working until he was 91.
Jack was not only a business owner and active community member, he was a dedicated family man.
Jack is survived by his three children: Gwen Baugh, Patsy Winters, and John Winters III "Jay" (and wife Jan) who all grew up and still live in the Edmonds area.
He also leaves behind his 10 adoring grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Grumpy," although he was a softie at heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lucile and Beth, as well as his brother Bud and beloved nephew Johnny.
Jack valued fairness, hard work, and generosity above all else and lived those values throughout his 93 years. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Services will be held 11:30 on Tuesday, October 10, at Beck's Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Edmonds Cemetery.
