Gary Chelin: 1945-2024

Posted

Gary Chelin passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024. He lived in Edmonds with his wife, Pauline, for over fifty years.
Gary was an electrician by trade and worked as a concrete cutter for most of his adult life. A hard work ethic defined him. Gary was always willing to help a neighbor by lending a tool or his expertise to fix or build something.
If he couldn’t get it perfect he would “MacGyver” it. He believed in having a tool for every occasion and more often than not had two or three of each. Often he could be found “holding court” in his garage with his neighbors.
Whether it was on a lake, river or salt water, his greatest joy was holding a fishing rod in his hands. He also loved to crab in the San Juans. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona, watching politics and the Seahawks on TV, cheering his grandkids at their sporting events and waiting for the Sonics to return to Seattle.
Gary was a ruthless Rummikub player who his grandkids always tried to beat. He is survived by his wife, three sons and their spouses and seven grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
