Frederic Richard Ballinger: 1942-2023

Fred "Freddy," 81, was born in Edmonds. He had a pretty idyllic childhood. He was an altar boy at St. Albans Episcopal Church. By age 12, Fred was selling papers on the Edmonds Ferry Dock. By age 14, he was working at the boat house by the ferry,

Fred graduated from Edmonds High School in 1960. He then attended Everett Community College. Fred worked for Joplin Paving and in 1963 married Francie Joplin. In 1964, they welcomed their son Michael W. Ballinger. In 1967, Fred moved with Joplin Paving from Edmonds to Monroe. In 1969, Fred, and Francie added a daughter to their growing family, Kelly Sue Ballinger (Schwindt).

In 1976, Joplin Paving sold and Fred and family moved to Lake Wenatchee. They bought, remodeled and ran the Cougar Inn on Lake Wenatchee. In 1979, Fred moved back to Monroe and started building homes and developing land.

In 1987, Fred married Susan Cantu Ballinger. Fred was a loving stepfather to his two stepsons, Shawn and Seth Cantu.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Ballinger Dent, and his father, Richard Ballinger. He was also preceded by his sister, Anni Ballinger.

Fred is survived by his son and daughter and stepsons. Also, Fred has seven grandchildren: Brandon, Danielle, Brooke, and Jayden Ballinger; Brittany, Cody, and Cassidy Schwindt; and his two step-grandchildren, Aidan and Ava Cantu.

Fred enjoyed boating, trips in his motorhome, going to Mexico, Alaska fishing, NASCAR, and gardening.

Fred died peacefully at his home with Suzy by his side. Fred was a great friend to all. He was very generous with his time and advice. He will be missed by his loved ones and friends.

There was a celebration of life memorial held at Jeno's Restaurant in Monroe on July 29, 2023. Donations may be made in his name to the Monroe Fire Department.
