Pianist Anastasia Solomatina will be featured at "Rachmaninoff's Second" at the ECA on Jan 23.
On January 23, 2012, Cascade Symphony and Music Director Michael Miropolsky will continue the orchestra's 50th season with "Rachmaninoff's Second".
The concert will be presented at 7:30 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts at 410 4th Ave. N. It will be preceded at 6:30 by a pre-concert lecture by Dave Beck of KUOW.
The program will begin with the familiar Valse Triste by Sibelius, followed by La Boutique Fantasque by Rossini-Respighi.
Also featured will be Gershwin's Selections from Porgy and Bess. Finally, internationally known pianist Anastasia Solomatina will perform Rachmaninoff's beloved Piano Concerto No. 2.
Anastasia Solomatina graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in 2003, received her Master of Music degree in 2005 from Kazan State Conservatory of Music in Russia and began her doctoral studies there.
During her last academic year in Russia, Ms. Solomatina held a position on the piano faculty at the Kazan State University of Culture and the Arts, which she relinquished in order to continue her professional activity in the United States.
In September, 2009 she joined the studio of Prof. Awadagin Pratt in pursuit of a DMA degree in piano performance at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
Ms. Solomatina has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Russia, Halifax, Italy and Seattle and given numerous recitals throughout Russia, Italy, Sweden and the US.
In 1992, she won first prize at the Second Tchaikovsky Moscow Regional Competition.
Since then, she has won first prize in many local and regional piano competitions, was a semifinalist at the 2nd Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition and has received numerous awards in international competitions in Italy, Germany, Russia and the US.
Cascade Symphony's 50th season will continue with "Brahms' Fourth" on March 26. The season will conclude with a collaboration between CSO and the Sno-King Chorale in presenting Beethoven's momentous Ninth Symphony on May 14.
The orchestra will also join with the Olympic Ballet Theatre to present a Children's Concert at 3 p.m., on February 25.
The ballet will be featured in "Peter and the Wolf", and a young "Rising Star" musician will perform.
In addition, a program of small ensemble performances by members of the orchestra will take place on April 15.
All concerts are at the Edmonds Center for the Arts with the exception of the ensemble concert, which is presented at the Edmonds United Methodist Church.
