A quiet still holds your soul looking onto a mature landscape. Your thoughts wander with each reaching branch and dew soaked leaf.
As father trees tower over peaceful meadows gently shading their wild blooms, we are left to contemplate the Artisan at play.
Seattle artist Jennifer Phillips explores the tranquil Northwest landscapes in oil on board. She presents her first show to Cole Gallery in Edmonds for the August First Glance Artist spot.
Phillips uses rich earthy colors and supple light to transform her moody naturescapes.
The dance between soft edges and subject matter marry effortlessly into one another just as distant treasured memories do.
“I’m attracted to the glow and flicker of sunlight as it peaks through the trees as well as the contour of the branches as they are silhouetted against the sky,” Phillips explains, “these are the things that make me fall in love with my subject over and over again.”
Phillips grew up with art all around her. She drew side by side with her father, an illustrator, on a daily basis.
Shortly after attending Savannah College of Art and Design she moved to the Northwest pursuing her passion for the arts.
After 10 years of working a day job to support her artistic endeavors, she plunged into her craft as a full time career.
Phillips’ focus toward honing her ability and technique over these many years shows in every exquisitely executed piece from tiny original oils on necklaces to large-scale paintings.
You can see her new body of work presented at Cole Gallery until the end of August or check out "http://www.colegallery.net/"www.colegallery.net. Meet Jennifer Phillips at Cole Gallery’s August Reception from 6 –8:30 p.m. on Saturday August 14 at the gallery (107 5th Ave. S., Edmonds.)
