On Saturday, August 7, from noon - 1 p.m., two iconic World War II fighter planes from the Flying Heritage Collection-the Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane -will return to the sky for a Summer Fly Day at Paine Field.
This theme of the free public event is "Battle of Britain Day" since both historic aircraft played a pivotal role in the battle.
The Spitfire has often been credited with winning the Battle of Britain, in spite of the fact that the much more numerous Hawker Hurricanes shouldered most of the burden.
Supermarine Spitfire: The basis of the Spitfire was adapted from a seaplane. Its distinctive elliptical wing design increased the fighter plane's overall maneuverability and decreased drag. Pilots who flew it loved the airplane, calling it "a ballerina in flight."

Hawker Hurricane: Because of its simplicity and adaptability, the Hawker Hurricane would serve in every major theater of air warfare in WWII, and destroyed more enemy aircraft than any other fighter in the Battle of Britain.
The Flying Heritage Collection is at Paine Field, 3407 109th Street SW, Everett.
Free parking is available.
From the hangar, attendees can walk through the gates to reach the viewing area.
Limited seating is available.
Fly Days are FREE to the public, but do not include admission to the Flying Heritage Collection.
FHC admission prices are as follows: Adults $12, Seniors/Military: $10; Youths (6-15): $8; Children (5 and under) are free; Groups (15 or more) are $10 per person.
