Fairwinds – Brighton Court is hosting their 5th annual Summerfest, titled Summerfest 2010 this year, to raise money to benefit the Lynnwood Fire Department.

The Summerfest 2010 Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. on July 17, at Fairwinds – Brighton Court, 6520 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.

Fairwinds – Brighton Court and the Fire Department have a great relationship and the Fairwinds – Brighton Court folks want to show their appreciation.

“They are so good to respond quickly for our residents when we call for assistance,” Linda Woolsey, from Brighton Court said. “They are particularly good to work with.”

One of the highlights of the day will be the cook-off.

“We’ve had chili cook offs a few times before, so switched to spaghetti this time,” Woolsey said.

Competing in the spaghetti cook off will be chefs from other Leisure Care communities and firemen.

There will be Caesar salad, garlic bread and beverages of course, and cotton candy will be available.

Judging of the spaghetti will be done by Stephenie Wright, and Loren Simmonds, Kimberly Cole and Jim Smith, Lynnwood City Council Members and Beth Morris, Council Assistant, at 1:30 p.m. Others attending but not judging are Mark Smith, Council member, Senator Paul Shinn, and Lynnwood Council President Ted Hikel.

There will be great music and games throughout the day.

Of special interest is the Improv with Taproot Theatre and the Bonnie Birch Roaming Duo, who will be singing and playing accordion and violin throughout the event.

The watermelon eating contest begins at 12:30. There will also be Bean Bag Baseball with prizes and a dunk tank, and other games.

The general public is invited, as well as residents and their families and staff and their families.

Any size donation is accepted, suggested is $10-$15 or more for the event.

Summerfest will end after the 2 p.m. performance of Taproot.
Everthing will occur outside, weather permitting.
