“Nothing less than the future of the wind quintet” says the Washington Post

Expect the unexpected when woodwind quintet Imani Winds visits Edmonds Center for the Arts on Sunday February 21, 2010 at 7:00PM.  Tickets are available online at  HYPERLINK "http://www.ec4arts.org" www.ec4arts.org or by phone (425) 275-9595. Ticket prices are $15-$35.

Since 1997, this Grammy nominated quintet has carved out a distinct presence in the classical music world with dynamic playing, poignant programming, and genre-blurring collaborations.

With two member composers and a commitment to commissioning new work, the group is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while bridging European, American, African and Latin American traditions.

The group is in the midst of its Legacy Commissioning Project, an ambitious five-year endeavor launching Imani Winds into its second decade of music making.

The ensemble is commissioning, premiering and touring ten new works for woodwind quintet written by established and emerging composers of various musical backgrounds.

The select composers originate from different points of the globe bringing experience not only in classical music, but jazz, Middle Eastern, Latin, and harder to define sounds.

The Legacy Project kicked off in 2008 with world premieres by Alvin Singleton and Roberto Sierra. Jason Moran's Cane premiered at the Kimmel Center for the Arts in Philadelphia in 2009, followed by a performance at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall and the 2010 premiere is expected to be a collaboration with internationally-acclaimed Palestinian Oud and Violinist Simon Shaheen.
