Edmonds artist Patricia Briershows at Monya Vee Selects from February 18 - March 16.
Edmonds art photographer, and creator of Edmonds Mural Society’s first
mural, Patricia Brier, unveils an entirely new series of work entitled Dreamscapes.
This series marks an artistic leap forward in her career, due to
unshackling herself from the need to incorporate text into each montage.
Her exhibition begins with the Third Thursday Art Walk on February
18. Meet her in person that day,
from 5 - 8 p.m., at Manya Vee Selects in downtown Edmonds.
In the Dreamscapes series, Brier incorporates anywhere from 6 - 14
images into a completely new work of art.
There is a surreal but inviting aspect to this series. Themes present in each one of the
series include clocks, windows and doors.
Brier intends to leave each work open-ended so the viewer can engage
their own story with it.
In the words of Brier, “Day dreams, night dreams, endless imaginings,
all create dreamscapes allowing us to reach beyond the mundane for the magic of
visions that await. Clocks symbolize the passing of time, forward and
backward; windows and doors are the gateways to and from our dreams; all
combine to give us a new awareness to the complexities of life, resolution of
challenges, and maybe a little glimpse of heaven.”
For nearly ten years, Brier’s art form has developed from
straightforward art photography, into what she describes as photo montages.
Rather than a single
photo, Brier takes elements from 4 - 12 photos and “collages” them together
digitally to create a story.
Adding some text completes the piece.
A few months ago, she encountered the phrase “digital
conceptualization,” and some ideas began percolating in her mind. At first, she attempted to keep words
in the finished pieces, but finally let go of that previous format, finding it
too restrictive.
It was then that the floodgates opened up and this new series was born.
Patricia Brier’s Dreamscapes exhibition will be on display from
February 18 - March 16 at Manya Vee Selects in downtown Edmonds at 409 Main
Street.
