The second, featured-artist visual arts exhibit at Edmonds Center for
the Arts will feature Mira Kamada, an artist from Bellingham with a commitment
to understanding and teaching the value of art in our culture.
The Edmonds
Center for the Arts has established visual arts as a permanent component of
their arts programming. Four shows will be juried and presented throughout the
2009-2010 ECA season.
The paintings currently on display at the Edmonds Center for the Arts
are from “Intersection,” an ongoing series by artist Mira Kamada. The series
explores how marketing messages shape cultural expectations and identity.
Reflected images of street activity merge with shop windows, forming
unexpected intersections that challenge the viewer’s perception of what is real
and what is illusion.
“As a painter I am engaged by visual stimuli as well as societal
issues. Surrounded by concrete, glass and steel, I am fascinated by reflected
light and cast shadows, by surprising color relationships and by the
challenging array of surface textures. Most of all I am intrigued by how an
arrangement of shapes and lines—figures and cars—arises to transcend the
artist’s conscious intent.”
Mira Kamada has enjoyed a long career in the arts that includes
teaching, design and studio arts. Her work has appeared in numerous exhibitions
and films, and is represented in art collections throughout the U.S.
She lives in Bellingham, Washington with her husband, Ray, and two
cats. More of her work can be seen at www.mirakamada.com.
