Spring is in the air and it’s time to start thinking about the return of the Farmer’s Markets.
The Edmonds Garden Market opens on Saturday, May 3 with from 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., in downtown Edmonds at 5th and Bell.
The long winter months have at last given way to the market’s fresh produce, seafood, plants and interesting craft items from local vendors.
Over the summer, we will try to keep you updated on what’s fresh at the market including some recipes as well as introducing you to the Snohomish County vendors that work so hard to put on a great market.
Many people are trying to take steps toward a “greener” lifestyle. Purchasing your food at a farmer’s market is one of the easiest ways to protect the earth. Most of the produce is organically grown which eliminates the use of pesticides and chemicals. And there is no 18-wheeler traveling for days on the roads to bring lettuce to your table. The food comes directly to you from the local farmer.
Best of all, the market is really a fun place to shop, have dinner and listen to some music.
Farmer’s markets in Snohomish County are made up of farmers and crafters that live and work in the area. Just as most of us don’t want to see our towns contaminated by noise and pollution from a commercial airport, the farmer’s are working to maintain an agricultural base in this county.
For the garden enthusiasts, the early June markets will also be bringing you lots of local-grown plants to choose from.
Bring your family and neighbors along to enjoy these community events that combine food, art and fun.
