Sports award named in Ashley’s honor
Ashley Aven was granted the first Ashley Aven Senior Athlete of the Year Award on May 24 at Meadowdale High School. “It was amazing,” Ashley said. “I thought it was just going to be a [certificate], but it was a shiny, blue plaque, and I also got $500 and flowers.”
IB program stressful but worth it

It was raining on Saturday, but volunteers still showed up at 9 a.m. to don gardening gloves, shovels and rakes at Edmonds-Woodway High School. About 55 students, four parents and one teacher volunteered to pick up trash, weed and mulch at Edmonds-Woodway for Campus Cleanup Day on Apr. 17.
Ashley still fighting leukemia
After the doctors at Children’s Hospital told Ashley Aven in January that she had only two months to live, she made a list of all the things she wants to do before she dies. At the top of the list were trips to the Woodland Park Zoo, Seattle Aquarium, Pike Place Market, and a vacation in Palm Springs, Calif. to celebrate her 18th birthday on Apr. 6.
LHS shoots hoops for Haiti
By Lynnwood High School’s registration deadline for its Hoops for Haiti basketball tournament, the school had just 10 teams signed up. Not wanting to cancel the tournament, LHS extended the deadline. Within a week, 60 teams had registered for the tournament.
