Students at Brighton School in Lynwood just finished a Haiti relief effort project at the school.

Wearing Haitian colors and waving handmade flags, children from preschool to eighth grade stood in solidarity and learned a lesson in compassion for victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Brighton Students in Mrs. Wiggins art class made canvas Haitian flags then sold them to family and friends. All the monies raised went to American Red Cross Haiti relief fund. They hosted a flag rally and presented a check to the American Red Cross for nearly $2000.

"Our students, like people across the globe, have wanted to extend help to the people of Haiti since learning of the devastation," said Principal Dr. David Locke of Brighton School. "Creating the flags was a hands-on way for them to be involved. After the rally the students took the purchased flags home and displayed them in their windows as a sign of hope and solidarity."
