Just call Scriber Lakes Paige Carter The Intermediary.

Or student adviser. Student adviser works too.

Carter, a junior, is the student adviser for Scriber Lake High School on the Edmonds school board for the 2008-2009 school year. She serves as the go-between for the students of her high school and the Edmonds School District.

I feel that the student body deserves to know what happens in the district that is running Edmonds schools, and I am personally glad to report both the students opinions and also the districts opinions, she said.

As student adviser, Carter is focused on keeping the lines of communication between Scriber Lakes student body and the school board open. She does her best to inform either side.

That way, not only one voice is heard, but every persons is, Carter said.

She enjoys being in-the-know about how the Edmonds school system work. Carter said her role as student adviser has taught her leadership and commitment.

Every meeting I attend, I learn something new, she said. It is an exciting experience. I take from this experience the knowledge of what happens in the underskirt of the Edmonds School District and the hard work that comes from this district.

Carter likes gaining leadership skills. Shes been a part of ASB throughout middle school and high school, and is a member of Scriber Lakes Women of Wisdom, a leadership program that works to prevent teenage violence.

Board member Gary Noble said Carter is a great asset to the school board because she brings a fresh, student view from Scriber Lake to school board meetings.

Oftentimes we on the board arent as aware as we could be with what is happening at the student level, and sometimes her views are different than ones we might perceive, he said.

Scriber Lake Principal Kathy Clift said Carter is an excellent representative for the diverse student body at the alternative school.

Paige is somebody that the students feel comfortable talking with, she said. And shes already a very good representative of the students [when] talking to me or other staff members about things that the kids would like to see happen.

She clearly sees the picture of what Scriber Lake is and what all of the students of our school bring to our school, Clift added. Shes a true leader.

Outside of Scriber Lake, Carter is currently enrolled in the medical assisting program at the Sno-Isle technical school in Everett. She also volunteers for five hours every Friday on the transport team at Everett Providence Hospital.

I enjoy every minute that I am there (at the hospital) and gain so much knowledge, Carter said. After high school, Carter hopes to attend Central Washington University and get into the universitys paramedic program.

I want to be a paramedic because I like the rush, I like the adrenaline and I like the experience that you get, she said. Its not something everyone can do. You have to have the mentality to be able to put yourself in that kind of position.
