Kudos to the Mukilteo School District for taking a very deliberate, methodical approach in dealing with a very unhappy situation a painful loss of revenue.

Both the House and Senate in Olympia are dotting their Is and crossing their Ts in the final days of their legislative session. Statewide, the deficit is forecast to top $9 billion in the next biennium.

For the Mukilteo School District, that could translate into state funding cuts of between $4 million and $7.8 million, depending on the final, compromise budget and on the governors willingness to use the line-item veto. The district gets about 70 percent of its money from the state.
