Mayor Joe Marine deserves the communitys thanks and support for his firm stance in opposition to commercial air service at Paine Field. The mayor has promised to use the state and federal Environmental Protection Acts and other legal means to slow airlines efforts to start passenger service here.

He joins County Councilmember and former Mukilteo Mayor Brian Sullivan as two of our best hopes for slowing, and perhaps stopping, what appears to be a headlong rush by proponents of commercial service. Spokespeople for Horizon Airlines, one of three passenger carriers that have expressed interest in launching service here, are telling audiences around the county that they hope to begin service as early as April.
