Fern Astell SchoppertFern Astell Schoppert passed away on June 28, 2010 at the age of 91. A member of the pioneering Yost family of Edmonds, she was born on February 3, 1919.
Her parents were George and Carrie (Yost) Astell and grandparents Allen M. and Amanda C. Yost.
She graduated from Edmonds High School and married Robert Keith Schoppert, now deceased, on December 19, 1944. For over half of her life she lived in Edmonds and was active in Music & Art.
She enjoyed researching the genealogy of the Yost family. She attended the First Church of Christ Scientist.
Due to her husband’s transfers she moved to Spokane, Washington in 1961 and then on to Portland, Oregon in 1976. In Spokane she was a member of the Mirabeau Garden Club and volunteered at the Spokane Theatre.
She was honored in Portland for helping establish investment clubs. She and her husband moved to Kalama, Washington in 1992.
Fern spent her last seven years at Woodlands Estates Retirement Center in Chehalis. She will be remembered for her lively participation in Bingo and Sit and Fit.
She is survived by her son, Thomas K. of Edmonds and daughters, Diane Swope (Allan) of Olympia, and Sally Little (William) of Mililani, Hawaii; her sister, Violet Wamsley of Edmonds; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and companion, Addison Williams, Sr.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 1:00 pm at Beck’s Funeral Home at 405 5th Avenue South, Edmonds, Washington.
Remembrances may be made to the Edmonds Museum or a charity of your choice.
