Harry E. Gibbons, a devoted husband and loving father, died at the age of 87, on March 29 in his S. Seattle home.
In 1945, Harry married his soda fountain sweetheart, Florence Ella Cox, after serving two yrs. in the U.S. Marine Corps. They had four children: Nancy, Harry III, Richard and Scott. After the death of his true love, Florence, in 1988, Harry was remarried to Peggy Luders in 1990. Harry was President of Glen Acres Golf & CC, and made a hole-in-one, but the best thing to happen from golf was meeting his second wife, Peggy, thru a mutual golfing friend.
Harry was born June 15, 1922 in Edmonds, WA, and graduated from Edmonds High School in 1941 with perfect attendance. Young Harry caddied for Seattle Golf and CC, and worked five paper routes to help support his mother Zelma and his little brother Bob during the depression.
In 1944, Harry joined the U.S. Marine Corps, became PFC, and served as a Guard for the Admiral in New Caledonia, S. Pacific during WWII. He was a steadfast supporter of the VFW and currently served at Post 9430 in Skyway. After the war, Harry sold real estate for 18 yrs., and retired as the Seattle Branch Director for the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.
Harry has never been known to have told a lie. Through his love, support and commitment, he helped to improve the lives and circumstances of many.
His generosity of spirit and respect for others will always remind us of how to live each day fully, truthfully and with meaning. Harry received Jesus Christ into his heart as Lord and Savior on 2/3/2010, and looked forward to God’s promise of heaven and seeing his family there, especially Florence and his daughter Nancy who died in 2007.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife Peggy, true love and best friend for 20 yrs., and his three sons, Harry III, Richard and Scott, and seven grandchildren, Christy Joy, Sharla, Greg, Michele, Cherie, Jason and Carly.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on April 10, at Bonney-Watson, Washington Memorial Park located north of the SeaTac Airport at 16445 International Blvd.
Reception to follow at 12 p.m. at VFW Skyway Post 9430 at 7421 S. 126th St. Skyway, WA.
