On February 2nd Sidney G.
Hayman, Sr., 94, departed this life to his eternal home, surrounded by his
family. He was born in Prince George, British Columbia. At age 3, he and his
family immigrated to the US. Sid lived in West Seattle, then the Eastside.
After graduating from West Seattle High School, he entered the Navy, where he
served during WWII. Before and after service with the Navy, he worked in Public
Relations at Alaska Steamship Co. until 1969. He later worked in public relations
at Bellevue Christian School.
Sid worked with the Light and Life Hour
radio broadcast, and throughout his life, frequently wrote letters to the
editor. He enjoyed singing, loved cloud formations, the mountains, salt water,
and exploring creation. Until age 88 he kayaked Puget Sound and participated in
Cross Sound races with his eldest son.
Sid leaves behind his wife of 59 years,
Dorothee (Haakensen) Hayman and his five children: Brian (Esther) Hayman,
Andrea (Don) Glassett, Sidney (Jenny) Hayman, Barbara (Paul) Eirikson, Anita
(David) Cowles. He has eight grandchildren, two great grandsons and a niece,
Eleanor Gosline. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother,
Bob.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm
on Saturday, February 6 at Bellevue Christian Reformed Church, 1211-148th
Ave NE, Bellevue, WA. Memorial contributions may be made to Bellevue Christian
School.
