In the last cycle of 2011, the Hazel Miller Foundation approved grants for anti-bullying education to Holy Rosary School, as well as another year of scholarships to be administered through Edmonds School District Alumni Association.

Edmonds Driftwood Players, Inc. also received grant funding for building improvements and Olympic Ballet Theatre will be funded for costs related to performing highlights of Sleeping Beauty.

Holy Rosary School has received $5,195 for the Rachel’s Challenge Anti-bullying Program that the Foundation also supported in the Edmonds School District. 

Rachel Scott was the first person killed in the Columbine School shooting incident of 1999 and her journals and memory have inspired the development of this program.

Rachel’s Challenge provides a format to build an anti-bullying infrastructure within schools through teacher and administrator trainings, student assemblies and club starting, and assemblies for parents and community members. 

This program will be open to members of the general public who may have missed the program in Edmonds public schools.

Edmonds School District Alumni Association has been approved for a scholarship grant of $30,000 to continue to offer the Hazel Miller Memorial Scholarships and Hazel & Morris Miller Memorial Scholarships in 2012 to qualifying students in the Edmonds School District. 

An additional Hazel & Morris Miller Scholarship was added this year for an exceptional male or female student.  Application information will be available in 2012 at www.esdalumni.org.

Edmonds Driftwood Players, Inc. has received a grant of $25,000 for the purchase of a new energy efficient HVAC system to allow them to continue to offer their performance program in 2012.

Olympic Ballet Theatre has received $7,000 to support the performance of Highlights from Sleeping Beauty & Griffes. 

This funding will allow costume and scenic design as well as artistic contributions which will act as a forerunner to bringing the full production of Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty to Edmonds.

The Hazel Miller Foundation is dedicated to serving the citizens of Edmonds and South Snohomish County through programs and projects that serve the public's benefit.  They will continue to review grants in the areas of education and youth services, poverty alleviation and hunger, civic and community services and amenities, the environment, and culture and the arts, so that charities most in need will grow in their contribution in the region. Hazel and her husband, Morris Miller, were committed members of the Edmonds' community.
