DJ Wilson, Edmonds City Council member, has announced he will seek appointment to the Snohomish County Council District 3 to fill the remainder of Mike Cooper’s term.
Cooper resigned the post last Friday to become mayor of Edmonds.
Wilson wasted no time in announcing his bid to become a member of the Snohomish County Council.
“As a city councilmember in Edmonds, I was proud last night to nominate and cast my vote in support of Mike Cooper for the position of mayor,” Wilson said.
“As a consequence, I am excited to now be seeking the appointment to the Snohomish County Council. My track record demonstrates that I am willing to put progressive values into action as policy, and I will continue to do that at the County.”
Wilson is competing for the appointment with Lynnwood City Council Vice-President Stephanie Wright and mobile home park advocate Marie Ambalada, also a Lynnwood resident.
Snohomish County Democratic party officials will meet Saturday to officially nominate up to three candidates for the position, left vacant by Democrat Cooper.
Snohomish County Council will vote, likely next Tuesday or Wednesday, on who will fill the vacant seat.
Wilson has a proven history of leadership on the Edmonds City Council and other venues.
“When it comes to a commitment to good environmental policy, DJ is as good as they come,” said Todd Cloutier of the Edmonds Planning Board.
“He understands the difficult policy questions, and is not afraid to advocate for what he believes in.”
His former colleagues also speak well of him.
“I didn’t know what the job of council president was really supposed to do until DJ took over that position,” said Ron Wambolt, former Edmonds City Council member.
“He did an outstanding job – the most productive and collaborative of any during my time in office.” To learn more about DJ Wilson, visit his website at www.DJWilson.com.
