The pursuit of sadness…
I watched a politician on TV yesterday giving yet another speech about the Declaration of Independence. He said we were all entitled to our unalienable rights of “life, liberty, and happiness.” Besides being frustrated that a presidential candidate could not accurately quote our country’s establishing document, he missed the most important part of the sentence: “the pursuit of.”

Boston, New York…Edmonds
New York City is home to 8,000,000+ New Yorkers. More than 600,000 people live in Boston. Our little hamlet of Edmonds has but 40,000 residents. Despite our decidedly smaller population, Edmonds represented the town well during one of the last climbs of Mount Rainier in the 2011 season.

X-tra Large Generation Gaps
The New York Times recently said my generation was going through a mid-life crisis. Generation X was the first generation to go by a one-letter, unqualifying title, rather than the loaded monikers that preceded us (greatest generation, lost generation, Generation Jones, baby boomers).

Spring of Love and Youth?
